Our Favorite Paint Colors for 2024
The power of paint transcends mere aesthetics; it holds the transformative ability to shape the ambiance and character of a space.
One recurring theme that has become a hallmark of our design philosophy at HHS is the preference for light neutral paint colors in many if not most of the rooms we design.
In the delicate dance between color and atmosphere, these soft, muted hues have proven to be indispensable. For the timeless elegance they exude and their remarkable versatility, light neutrals serve as the foundational canvas upon which the narrative of each room unfolds. Here are the top three light neutral paint colors we used most in 2023. We don’t see us tiring of these anytime soon.
Classic Gray | OC-23
Benjamin Moore Classic Gray OC-23 was the most used paint color in our interior design and renovation projects in 2023. There are numerous reasons why this paint color works so well in multiple situations:
Color Tone: Classic Gray is a warm gray with subtle undertones, with a neutral and soft appearance. It doesn't have strong cool or warm undertones, making it adaptable to various lighting conditions.
Versatility: This color is highly versatile and works well in various spaces, including living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, and bathrooms. It complements both traditional and contemporary design styles.
Light Reflectance: Classic Gray has a relatively high light reflectance value, which means it tends to bounce light around the room. This property can make spaces feel brighter and more open.
Neutral Base: The neutral base of Classic Gray makes it easy to pair with other colors and design elements. It serves as a neutral backdrop for furniture, artwork, and decorative accessories.
Pure White | SW-7005
Sherwin Williams Pure White is our all time favorite white paint. It strikes the perfect balance between warm and cool and never feels stark or cold in any space. Here are some of it’s best qualities:
Timeless Elegance: Pure White offers a timeless and classic look. Its clean and crisp appearance makes it a versatile choice for various design styles and in virtually any room.
Clean Aesthetic: The purity and cleanliness of Pure White create a fresh and inviting atmosphere. It's an excellent choice for spaces where a clean and uncluttered look is desired.
Showcases Architectural Details: When used on trim, doors, or moldings, Pure White can highlight and showcase architectural details. It provides a crisp contrast that accentuates the lines and features of a room.
Coordinates with Various Materials: Pure White complements a wide range of materials, including wood, metal, and stone. It's a versatile choice that works well with different textures and finishes.
Expansive Feel: The color's reflective nature and lack of strong undertones contribute to a sense of airiness and expansiveness. It's an excellent choice for creating a visually open and uncluttered environment.
Shoreline | 1471
We have always used gray paint sparingly and are very picky about which gray paint color we use. This soft gray from Benjamin Moore with a slight lavender undertone is our favorite for bedrooms and other quiet, peaceful spaces. Colors and materials that pair well with this color are:
1. White: Crisp white trim, moldings, or furniture can create a clean and classic contrast with Shoreline, enhancing its subtle warmth. Benjamin Moore's Simply White or White Dove work well with it.
2. Navy Blue: Navy blue adds a touch of sophistication and depth when paired with Shoreline. Consider navy blue accent pieces, such as throw pillows, rugs, and furniture.
5. Wood Tones: Natural wood finishes, such as oak or walnut, bring warmth and texture to a space painted in Shoreline. Consider incorporating wood furniture, flooring, or decor elements for a balanced look.
7. Sage Green: A muted sage green pairs harmoniously with Shoreline, creating a tranquil and nature-inspired ambiance. Use sage green in accessories, plants, or even as an accent wall.
8. Brass or Gold Accents: Metallic finishes, such as brass or gold, can add a touch of glamour to Shoreline. Consider incorporating these finishes in light fixtures, cabinet hardware, or decorative accessories.
9. Natural Textures: Materials like jute, rattan, or woven textures complement Shoreline's neutral palette, adding depth and interest. Incorporate these textures through rugs, baskets, or woven furniture.
