FAQs

Do I really need Full Service Design?

There is much more that goes into the design of a space than most people realize. The “design vision” is only the beginning. The execution is where the true magic happens. There are hundreds and even thousands of small decisions and details that take a room or house to the level you see in many Pinterest and Instagram images. This requires a level of experience and expertise that designers hone over many years. Trusting our process and knowledge leads to special outcomes.

How much should I expect to spend on Design Services?

Every project is unique and is priced according to a specific scope of work. For full service design expect to somewhere between 15%-25% of your total project budget on design fees.

Do you mark up the products you source or pass on your discount?

For full service design, all items presented to the client will be procured through HHS and its local procurement companies. HHS’s contacts are significant buyers in the furniture marketplace to-the-trade only and have established accounts with hundreds of manufacturers and suppliers across the globe. HHS’s purchasing power results in savings to clients, not only in the purchase price, but in the time saved procuring and managing the items themselves from various retailers.

How much will I be involved in the process?

Design projects are very much a collaborative process.  The ‘getting to know you’ phase at the start of the project allows us to understand your needs, your lifestyle & your investment amount.  We ask a lot of questions and discuss in depth your requirements for each space.  While working together, we want to build a partnership with you & establish trust. Our working relationship with you is extremely important to us.

We do ask that you kindly allow us to do what we do best and let us curate an entire custom design based on our detailed assessment in the early stages of our process. We do not “shop” with our clients. Our approach looks at the space as a whole and each element within is considered closely in relation to the rest of it. At the end of the Design phase, after our presentation meeting, you will have the final say on all decisions before any orders are placed or any trades work gets underway.

What if I don’t like something you present?

We average minimal revisions, because of our extensive front end process. Each change or alteration may affect other aspects of the design, which in turn could increase the time needed to ensure the overall plans are not compromised.  Clients who put their trust in us to carry out the vision receive the best results at the most cost-effective price point. However, we do allow 3-4 re-selections of specific products after our design presentation.

What is your specialty?

We love all aspects of Interior Design, we see at as a puzzle to be solved and is different every time. Add in the human aspect and it makes it all the more fascinating. Our sweet spot is full service renovation. We stand out in this arena because of our strong architectural training (MS in Interior Architecture and NCIDQ certification), experience working with contractors/trades on job sites and technical expertise in the field of architecture and design. While we also love the pretty things; furnishings and decorations, we love getting dirty in the field and pulling all the pieces of the puzzle together for a well functioning beautiful result.
